Post-pitch story
Kevin Allen and Moses McCall pitched ROWViGOR as rowing, reimagined — a connected fitness experience built around the rowing machine, before connected fitness was a household idea. The vision was right; the timing and the money weren't. In 2019 the team turned to equity crowdfunding on MicroVentures, but the campaign failed to hit its minimum funding goal. Then came the cruelest twist: when COVID-19 shut gyms in 2020, demand for at-home fitness exploded — exactly ROWViGOR's moment — but as the founders recounted in a Season 8 follow-up episode called "The Breaking Point," they were stymied by a lack of capital and mounting technical debt. They had the wave and couldn't afford the surfboard. The company shut down by 2021. Both founders have landed on their feet. Allen is co-founder and board member at Access Mode, a nonprofit supporting BIPOC tech entrepreneurs — turning his own fundraising scars into help for founders who face the same walls. McCall is a software engineer at Swoops and founded Energy Atlas, an energy data interpretation system. ROWViGOR is a what-if story: the right idea, the right moment, and not quite enough runway.
