Post-pitch story
Tom Impallomeni pitched Tribe XR as a DJ school inside virtual reality: strap on a headset, and you're standing at professional decks with a mentor beside you, no $2,000 equipment required. VR was supposed to be a hard sell, but Tribe XR kept finding students. The platform expanded across Quest and SteamVR headsets, then — in a smart hedge — beyond VR entirely, launching web and desktop versions in 2024 so anyone could learn. By then the school had passed 100,000 students. And in January 2026 came the milestone: Tribe XR partnered with the legendary DMC World Championships to crown the first-ever VR DJ World Champion, a genuine first for the art form. Impallomeni is still CEO, and the company calls itself the world's largest virtual DJ community, with AI-driven mentoring in the works. From a pitch that asked investors to believe people would learn to DJ in a headset, Tribe XR has become one of the clearest consumer-VR success stories to come through the show.
