Amado Guloy
Pitched on the show
Rex Animal Health
Post-pitch story
Amado Guloy's pitch for Rex Animal Health — data analytics for livestock health — was one of the show's memorable wins: he walked away with a $250,000 investment from Charles Hudson of Precursor Ventures, right there on the episode. Rex set out to bring modern data science to an industry that still ran on gut instinct, helping producers predict and prevent disease in animal populations. But Guloy's founder journey took a turn no business plan anticipates. He faced serious personal health challenges while building the company — a struggle he shared openly in a follow-up episode titled "I've Looked Death in the Eye," one of the most raw founder conversations the show has aired. Rex ultimately didn't survive, but Guloy's career after it has been remarkable. He moved to the other side of the table, becoming a venture partner at Kaya Founders and Ganas Ventures, backing early-stage founders himself, and he's currently involved in a stealth AI startup. From pitching for his life on the show, to fighting for his health, to funding the next generation of founders — Rex Animal Health is gone, but Amado Guloy's story is one of the most human the show has ever told.
