Lab141
Post-pitch story
Andrea Madho co-founded Lab141 in 2016 with Philip Manning, aiming to fix one of fashion's oldest problems: clothes that don't fit. The plan was custom-fit clothing made with 3D cutting and modern manufacturing, so every garment would fit its owner instead of an average body. After the pitch, Lab141 went deep on the technology. It worked with Cornell University's materials research center and Syracuse University's Technology Commercialization Research Center on research and development, and it joined the Majira Project accelerator's 2020 group. These were serious partnerships for a small New York fashion-tech startup. It didn't last. The Majira Project's own page now says plainly that "Lab 141 is no longer active." No public shutdown date has been announced, but the company appears to have closed in the years after 2020, when the pandemic hit both clothing retail and manufacturing hard. Madho has moved on to storytelling. She now hosts the podcast Stroke of Genius. Lab141 didn't make it, but the problem it took on, clothes that actually fit, is still one the fashion industry is trying to solve.
