Bill Smith
Pitched on the show
Landing
Post-pitch story
Bill Smith's Season 11 appearance was a special one — an episode of "The Exit," the show's format for founders reflecting on a sale. Smith discussed selling Shipt to Target for $550 million, but his current venture, Landing, is very much an active story. Landing, the furnished-apartment membership company Smith founded after Shipt, has been scaling aggressively. In May 2025, the company secured $180 million in debt financing to expand its flexible-stay program, and in late 2024 it acquired flexible-housing operator Barsala, adding inventory and market reach. The company reported $175 million in annual revenue for 2024, employs more than 400 people, and lists a network of over 7,000 apartments across more than 300 properties. It's a striking second act. Where Shipt was about delivering groceries, Landing is about delivering a lifestyle — the ability to move between furnished apartments in different cities under one membership. The flexible-living category has had its share of struggles industry-wide, which makes Landing's revenue scale and debt raise notable. Smith's episode offered the rare chance to hear a founder dissect a nine-figure exit while his next company was already well on its way to building something even bigger.
