Oma Health
Post-pitch story
Khaylah Epps built Oma Health around a simple idea: there aren't enough primary care doctors in the American South, but there are nurse practitioners who could open their own practices if starting one weren't so hard. Oma gives them the tools to do it, with a focus on improving care for Black women in communities that have been left behind. Season 12, Episode 14 aired in November 2024, and it was a strong showing. According to The Pitch, Cyan Banister, Charles Hudson, Elizabeth Yin, Mac Conwell and Jesse Middleton all made commitments to invest. The follow-through is harder to confirm. A startup data profile lists a $145,000 pre-seed round closing in February 2025, with a two-person team based in Birmingham, Alabama. We couldn't find a press release or a public list of who actually invested, so it's not clear how many of the on-air commitments closed. The product, though, is live and growing. Oma Health now offers an AI-assisted toolkit for nurse practitioners launching their own practices, including credentialing tracking, an electronic medical records system and a ready-made website, with testimonials from nurse practitioners who've used it. Every new practice an Oma customer opens is a new place for patients to get care. That's a story worth following.
