Post-pitch story
Mariam Braimah pitched Kimoyo on the show in August 2023 under a pointed title: "Is This African Startup Venture Backable?" Kimoyo helps companies run consumer research across African markets, which are often overlooked. The answer to the episode's question has been "it's a real business, if not a rocket ship." In October 2024, Kimoyo became an official vendor for Ipsos, one of the world's largest research firms, recruiting study participants across Africa. Around the same time, Braimah went back to Netflix full-time as a Product Design Lead in R&D, while keeping Kimoyo running with a very small team. As of 2026, Tracxn lists the company as active with about three employees. That's a common post-pitch path: a founder with a strong day job keeps a valuable niche company alive on the side. With an Ipsos contract in hand, Kimoyo is still filling the gap it pitched.
