Hyde Closet
Post-pitch story
Hyde Closet pitched itself as "Rent the Runway for men": a clothing rental service for guys who wanted to look sharp without buying a new wardrobe. On the 2019 episode "When Less Is Not More," the investors questioned whether men really wanted to rent clothes. The company found a different path. PitchBook records a small early raise of about $670,000 in May 2021. Today the business, now called Hyde (myhyde.com), describes something completely different from consumer rental. It makes AI software for "agentic merchandising," matching retailers and brands that have extra clothing inventory with buyers who want it. PitchBook lists it as a private, active company with about a dozen employees. It's a big change: from renting suits to men to helping the fashion industry move excess stock. The connection makes sense, since both are about getting more use out of clothes that would otherwise sit unused. We couldn't fully confirm how much of the original team runs the new version, so consider this a work in progress. Either way, the Hyde name is still going, aimed at a business problem instead of a closet.
