Post-pitch story
Sarah Lucena opened Season 14 (Episode 169, "Can This Voice AI Startup Find You a Job… or a Date?") with Mappa, a voice-AI platform that turns about 30 seconds of someone's speech into a behavioral profile. The main use is hiring, though the episode also floated dating and investor vetting. Lucena told the panel the company had reached $3.5 million in annual recurring revenue in two years, along with a 92% interview-to-hire rate, 78% repeat customers and 94% margins. One twist came out on the show: The Pitch Fund had quietly invested before the taping, without telling the panel. The panel liked the pitch, and the real drama came during diligence. The Season 14 finale reported that over about two months Lucena raised her target valuation cap from $15 million to $48 million, betting that Mappa would soon reach $4 million in recurring revenue. The round eventually closed at a $30 million valuation, with Cyan Banister and Rohit Gupta among the investors. That made it one of the biggest valuation jumps in the show's history. Mappa.ai now presents itself as an AI hiring platform, "hire for fit, performance, and retention," and the dating angle has dropped out of view. The revenue, conversion and valuation figures come from Lucena and The Pitch's own coverage, and we found no independent filings confirming them.
