WeDo
Post-pitch story
Spencer Shulem pitched WeDo as a to-do app people would actually enjoy using — shared lists, habits, reminders, wrapped in a design that made productivity feel friendly. Users genuinely loved it: the app had high ratings and hundreds of thousands of downloads. But loving a free app and paying for one are different things, and WeDo never found a sustainable way to make money. The company wound down around 2020 as the pandemic reshuffled everyone's priorities. Shulem's story didn't end there — it barely paused. In 2020 he founded BuildBetter.ai, an AI-powered assistant for product teams that turns customer calls and feedback into usable insight, and that company has raised more than $5 million. WeDo is a classic example of the gap between a beloved product and a viable business, and its founder's second act is proof that the lessons of a shutdown compound. The to-do app is gone; the founder's next company is very much not.
