SnapShyft
Post-pitch story
Thor Wood founded SnapShyft in Indianapolis in 2016 as an on-demand staffing marketplace. Restaurants and hospitality businesses could fill last-minute shifts with vetted gig workers. It's a real pain point for any manager whose server calls in sick on a Friday night. After its appearances on the show, SnapShyft built real momentum. It had backing from 500 Startups and gener8tor, and in 2020 it ran an equity crowdfunding round on Netcapital that raised about $1.07 million at a valuation of roughly $5 million. Wood talked openly about the company's growth in interviews, including with KingsCrowd. But 2020 was a brutal year to bet on restaurant staffing. The pandemic emptied dining rooms across the country, and the hospitality labor market was turned upside down. PitchBook now lists SnapShyft as out of business, and its Netcapital page is no longer taking investments. We haven't found an exact closing date. Wood still lists himself as SnapShyft's founder, and his profile says he's "working on a new project." The shift-filling problem SnapShyft tackled hasn't gone away, and its founder seems ready for the next one.
